The web cast covers the details of an open, multi-center randomized control study in which 100 patients at 10 sites in the United States received the study treatment of either Mepilex Ag or Silvadene for partial thickness burns. In addition, we will discuss the results of a sub-study of pediatric patients aged 1 to 4 years old that received Mepilex Ag treatment in 3 centers. Lastly, we will hear the nursing perspective from burn nurses involved in both studies whose main priority was to maintain adequate pain control during procedures to maintain patient comfort.

Pain at wound dressing change has been identified as one of the most distressing aspects of a chronic wound and can have a major impact on the quality of life of a patient. A number of Best Practice Documents have been developed in order to provide guidance to Healthcare Practitioners, one of the most recent from the of World Union of Wound Healing Societies has identified 10 principles of best practice at wound dressing change specifically designed to assist in minimising pain at dressing-related procedures.

Yet recently it was identified that only 45% of HealthCare Practitioners are regularly assessing pain during wound care.
Therefore, this seminar will focus on the important topic of pain assessment during wound dressing change, presented by Prof Christina Lindholm this session will provide an important practical update into the importance of assessing pain, the tools that can be utilised and the impact on outcomes that may be achieved.
